SUPERNORMAL 2022

I would like to present my new piece An Act Of Surrender as a special performance at Supernormal 2022.

Although conceived for presentation in large club environments with sub bass systems, the composition works when scaled down to more intimate settings. I would like to explore this further for my proposed performance at Supernormal. Ideally performing in-the-round in an enclosed space in a late afternoon slot on Saturday.

Premiered at the opening of Harrison Pearce’s show HOST in February 2022 and scheduled for release on Bloxham Tapes later in the year, the piece uses a sound that’s acoustically impossible on the instrument as a key motif from which the whole work is built. The title and themes within the piece continue my explorations into the sense of the other; of surrendering to a coercive or higher force, not necessarily religious surrender but acknowledging something ritualistic in the effort to yield. In this case surrender isn’t a negative connotation, I was interested in whether surrender is active or passive, whether to surrender means you are consumed by this ‘higher force’ or exist within it.
